Northern Arapaho Language Documentation and Revitalization with Virtual Reality

OVERVIEW

Our VR-based project for Northern Arapaho language revitalization creates immersive, culturally significant landscapes that rekindle memories for the language's last elder speakers. Using VR with 3D and drone technology, this initiative enhances traditional language documentation by capturing the full sensory experience of the land, which is foundational to Indigenous ecological knowledge. The project also empowers youth by combining VR technology with cultural education, providing a transformative, culturally affirming way to bridge Indigenous knowledge with the possibilities of digital innovation, in keeping with our mission to sustain language and heritage.
